Al-Khelaifi hits out at Barca and La Liga for juggling FFP rules

October 2 - Paris St Germain boss Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the most powerful executive in European football, has swept aside Barcelona's financial policy after the Catalan club signed a series of elite players this summer despite a heavy debt.

The Barca club have made the controversial decision to sell future television rights and much of their digital content in order to shell out €150m on a host of star players, much to the anger of their rivals. < /p>

By selling 25% of their La Liga media rights and a 49% stake in Barca Studios, Barca have increased the league's annual spending cap from -€144m to over €600m. euros.

Al-Khelaifi, head of the all-powerful European Club Association as well as chairman of influential Qatari broadcaster beIN Media Group, condemned Barca's behavior and said that UEFA, where he sits on the executive committee , will review the legality of their buying strategy.

"Is it fair? No, it's not fair… Is it legal? I'm not sure," he told Politico.

"If they allow it, others will do the same. Of course UEFA has its own [financial] rules, for sure they will look at everything."

Al-Khelaifi's latest comments mirror remarks he made a week ago when he indirectly criticized Barca during a speech to European club bosses at the general assembly of ECA.

"The new financial sustainability rules are a positive development," Al-Khelaifi said. “But we have to be careful. Dangerous debt levels and magical stock trading are not a sustainable path. »
