Alaafin's Stool: Members of the Agunloye House of Power stage a protest

There is another twist to the candidacy for succession to the vacant Alaafin seat of Oyo, as twenty-eight families from the ruling house of Agunloye staged a peaceful protest in the town of Oyo against the alleged marginalization by the Kingmakers.

Protesters have warned that the selection of the new Alaafin could drag on if neither family is considered for the throne

They described as unacceptable a centuries-old recognition given to just one of the 29 ruling families of Agunloye Ruling House.

They postulated that only one of the 29 ruling families of the ruling House of Agunloye ascended the throne each time it was the ruling house's turn.

The Mogaji Agunloye Isale Oja, Oyo Town, Pa Isiaka Karimu, said that the family of Lawani Agogo Ija produced the Alaafin all three times the opportunity presented itself at the Agunloye ruling house of produce the Alaafin.

He said the remaining 28 families would not allow themselves to be marginalized again this time.

He said, "Our appeal is to the Oyo Mesi, who are the kingmakers, and to the state government, to allow fairness this time around." The 28 families who were marginalized are also entitled to the throne.

"We won't let this opportunity slip away and that's why we make this passionate appeal to those affected to be righteous this time.

”There are 29 ruling families in the ruling house of Agunloye and only one of the 29 has monopolized the throne. They want to take the throne again this time but we won't allow it. This can lead to a legal war, but we don't want that. We have submitted the names of 14 candidates and we ask them to choose from these names the next Alaafin. They are all competent and qualified to rule.

“Alaafin Adelu Agunloye had 29 male children. The first of the 29 was Lawani Agogoja who became Alaafin and later two Alaafin, one from one of his children and another, his grandson.

“Alaafin Lawani Agogoja reigned from 1905 to 1911. Alaafin Siyanbola Ladigbolu 1911-1944. Alaafin Bello Gbadegesin Ladigbolu2 1956-1968.”

“We, the other 28 princes of the ruling House of Agunloye, have been marginalized. Moreover, the descendants of these last three Alaafin are still vying to fill the vacant seat of Alaafin now. review our case to consider the children of Agunloye House Isale Oja to fill the vacant stool and become the next Alaafin.

"The children of the three ruling families are still fighting each other now while the remaining 28 ruling families did not have a chance to ascend to the throne. What they tell us is that we don't have no right to the throne, but that won't happen."

He said the families have princes who have excelled in various fields and have deep knowledge of tradition and culture and car to succeed Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Recall that the Alaafin stool became vacant following the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi on April 22 at the age of 83. Oba Adeyemi was produced by Alowolodu Ruling House.
