A traditionalist based in Imesi-Ile, Osun State, Oba Adetoyese Olakisan, has warned kingmakers in Oyo city against manipulation of the selection process for Oyo's new Alaafin .

Olakisan, popularly known as Oba Ogboni Agbaye, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Sunday said that a wrong appointment could have a negative effect on Yorubaland and not just Oyo.

He insisted that Ifa (oracle) should be allowed to choose the next Alaafin without manipulation, adding that past mistakes of nominating a bad candidate as monarch should be avoided in choosing the new Alaafin.< /p>

The statement further reads in part: "As a traditionalist and guardian of culture, it is important and equally timely to publicly inform the government of Oyo State, Basorun of Oyo (the leader of the kingmakers) and all the Oyomesi (the kingmakers) that the position of Alaafin of Oyo should not be politicized, monetized but should be traditional.

“There are many princes but only one of them is king, not two. Any mistake in choosing the new Alaafin will mean loss for Yorubaland and not only for the city of Oyo.

"Any attempt to select a king without consulting the Oracle of Ifa or manipulating the directives of the Oracle of Ifa will be an impending calamity. The exalted stool must be filled by one who is well cultured, rooted in history and heavenly ordained."
