ALGON boss urges African leaders to declare global climate change emergency

National Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon Kolade Alabi, has urged African leaders to declare climate change a global emergency.

He said so over the weekend when he joined other delegations of high-level Nigerian technocrats and international experts at the African Union Summit on Adapting Global Centers which was held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Hon Alabi, who denounced the high rate of increasing dangers of climate change in the world, stressed that every sensible person on earth has a duty to take measures that will protect the earth from destruction.

The boss of ALGON who reiterated the association's commitment under his leadership promised to collaborate with the international community to facilitate accelerated grassroots development in accordance with international best practices.

Hon Alabi added that the overall objective of the summit was to explore significant job creation opportunities in rural areas as well as to ensure increases in productivity for GDP growth and reduction of poverty.

The summit which brought together world leaders from all governments, international organizations, multilateral development banks, the private sector, mayors, civil society, young leaders and other stakeholders also aimed to raise the ambition of adaptation action for the continent.< /p>
