Aliette RTW Spring 2023

Super stylist and designer Aliétte Jason Rembert is used to working with powerful women, including Issa Rae and Lizzo. But he got emotional behind the scenes when he opened up about a particular influence in his life: his mother and one of his brand's namesake, Louiseanne Aliette.

He dedicated his Spring 2023 Aliétte collection to her, recalling his funeral 11 years ago. "I went to his funeral and all these people said amazing things about him. First of all, I've never been so proud to be his son. The second thing was that I wish that she hears it in the flesh.

"As I grew up I had amazing women who inspired but the only thing it's always the same is that they don't know how doped they are... With this collection, I wanted women to know, yo, you're sick and you should say you're sick and tell your friends they're sick. I want them to feel it too, to feel seen, supported and protected."

The evening wear collection did it all, with unapologetically glamorous dresses, including a gorgeous sheer silver lace number with puff sleeves and scarf collar, and a plunging pink column with fuchsia pearls at the center back.

Rembert showcased plenty of Indian-made embroidery, on a fully embroidered cap sleeve dress in a submarine motif and a fringed hem, and more casual, on a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase "Smell the Roses", worn with a sky blue feather pencil skirt. Her celebrity clients are going to love it all.

Aliétte's other namesake, Rembert's 5-year-old daughter, Harper Aliette, told him offered a lively and adorable commentary from the margins. "That's cute," she said from look to face.

"This world would be a better world if women took over," Rembert said backstage . And when Harper jumped into her dad's arms to get carried down the runway during her arc, it was clear she already was.
