Anambra man docked for alleged sexual assault of 17-year-old girl
A 35-year-old man, Odili Chukwuka, was arraigned in Amawbia Child and Sexual Offenses Court, Anambra State, on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
The suspect, from the community of Aguluezechukwu in the Aguata local government area of the state, faces nine counts of sexual abuse, unlawful assault, robbery and causing bodily harm.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Anayo Nwano, told the court that the offenses were committed on July 28 in Aguluezechukwu.
"The accused and others still at large sexually abused a 17-year-old girl by touching and applying pepper to her private parts.
"He emotionally and verbally abused her, unlawfully assaulted her by stripping her naked, binding her hands and legs, and whipping her to a stupor with a pepper cane.
“Chukwuka also deprived his victim of his liberty and stole his phone and a bag containing an unspecified amount of money,” Mr. Nwano, who is a police inspector, told the court.
He said the offenses violated the Anambra State Penal Code of 1991, the Anambra Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act (VAPP) of 2017 and the Human Rights Act of the Anambra State Child of 2004.
The Chief Magistrate, Geneviève Osakwe, ordered that the accused be taken into custody, while the case was adjourned to September 21 for mention.
