Anambra police arrest two robbery suspects on second Niger bridge

Agents from the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two armed robbery suspects specializing in stealing their valuables from victims on the Second Niger Bridge.

A statement released by State Police Spokesman DSP Tochukwu Ikenga on Monday said officers attached to the Port Division, who were carrying out a surveillance patrol on the bridge, carried out the arrest on Sunday.

According to him, the surveillance patrol team was stationed on the bridge to prevent the theft of the expansion joints on the bridge.

"The police team on surveillance patrol on the bridge to prevent vandals from stealing the expansion joints were alerted to gang activity near the Obosi end of the bridge.

“The secret police team watched the gang and rushed on them, arresting two of the gangsters while others fled.

“During the search, two daggers and five SIM cards removed from previously stolen phones were recovered from the suspects between the ages of 20 and 22.

"One of the suspects was from Enugu state and the other from Ebonyi state," Ikenga said.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, praised the patrol team for their vigilance and courage in dealing with the gang.

"CP has ordered that the owners of the recovered SIM cards be located in order to gather evidence to successfully prosecute the arrested suspects," he added.
