Birthday: Obasanjo visits Akwa Ibom on Monday
As activities marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Akwa Ibom State continue, former Nigerian President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is due to visit the state on Monday for the commissioning of the 29 km dual Etinan-Ndon Eyo road.
Governor Udom Emmanuel's Special Assistant for Research and Documentation, Mr. Ndueso Essien revealed this to reporters on Sunday during an inspection of the road project with two cable bridges.
The Etinan-Ndon-Eyo road, managed by a Chinese construction company, Wizchino Engineering, connects several communities in Etinan and Onna, the birthplace of Governor Udom Emmanuel, with the East-West road and provides access to the state industrial belt.
Describing the nature of the road before, the Assistant Governor said, "Ekpene Ukpa Bridge was a nightmare, giving road users a horrible experience.
"Several lives were lost on the old Ekpene Ukpa bridge, before Governor Emmanuel came to the rescue."
