Another group of returnees arrive at Lagos airport from Libya

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received another batch of 126 Nigerians stranded in Libya and returned to Nigeria.

The returnees were voluntarily airlifted from Misrata, Libya under the International Organization for Migration (IOM) voluntary assistance programme.

The latest arrival brought the number of stranded Nigerians from the war-torn country to 300 in two months, with 176 returnees assisted to return home on August 16.

The male returnees consist of 62 adult women, 6 girls and 4 infants while the male returnees consist of 46 adults, 2 children and 6 infants.

The returnees were airlifted to the cargo wing of Murtala Muhammad International Airport on an Al Buraq chartered flight registered 5A-DMG Boeing 700-787l which landed at 4:22 p.m.

The Agency's Director General, Alhaji Mustapha Habib Ahmed, portrayed by Ibrahim Farinloye in addressing the returnees, urged Nigerians to be wary of close associates, family friends and neighborhood elders who would deceive with sweet talk about a better life in a foreign land.

He said, "These people are seen as the messiah to help enslaved Nigerians which the victims would regret throughout their lives."

The managing director who explained that the new deceptions used as destination points are Iraq, Dubai (UAE) and Egypt said that all victims often end up in connection houses in Libya.

Other agencies that joined NEMA to receive returnees included: Nigerian Commission for Refugees, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, State Security Services, SSS , the Nigerian Police and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
