Anrealage RTW Spring 2023

If proof was needed of the adage "opposites attract", Kunihiko Morinaga l 'provided in his return to the Parisian track. An exploration of contrasts through extreme patchwork, his silhouettes structured with mathematical precision are in no way burlesque.

In a specially created in-house workshop, five craftsmen sewed together thousands of small pieces of 200 different fabrics past collections with geometric patterns.

From monochromatic black to jagged pseudo-mixes of shades, from flowing shirts to structured puff-sleeve dresses pencil skirts, corset belts or sweat-harnesses, each piece in the collection has been shaped in this way. The most elaborate look, a dress with a flared skirt with wide double-layered sleeves, had up to 4,000 such fragments.

Key looks first scrolled one way, then upside down, hems of each fall creating a texture in its second iteration. The two versions were to be displayed side by side in his online video, the designer explained.

Morinaga's trompe-l'oeil acting was not limited to the visual realm; each guest was fitted with a helmet from sponsor NTT Sonority, which has also created open-ear helmets for the parade, which will be launched next year. Immersing the wearer in the experience, part of its hybrid soundtrack is filtered through the earpiece, part over the audio system.
