APC distances itself from party chairman's attack on Tinubu over CCP membership

• As Lawan concedes defeat after court verdict on senatorial ambition

The crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continued to escalate as the party repudiated a letter allegedly from the national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, who objected to the composition of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC).

In an apparent face-saving measure, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka was adamant that the letter was not from the party.

The party has said it is united in its resolve and commitment to a focused and issue-oriented campaign as it persuades Nigerians to renew its mandate in the 2023 elections.

It read: "Our attention has been drawn to a circulating 'draft' letter allegedly written by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of our major party, addressed to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of our party , expressing dissatisfaction with the CCP's recently released list.

"To be clear, the 'draft' letter does not emanate from the party. An unsigned letter that marks itself as a 'draft' cannot and should not be attributed to its alleged author.

"Our party's national chairman and our presidential candidate maintain cordial and efficient channels of communication, and enjoy full freedom of open and frank conversations on matters relevant to the party and our presidential campaign.

"As such, an unsigned "draft" letter of the type in circulation is manifestly unnecessary and has no qualitative value for the engagement between the party and the CCP.

"We will not be distracted by the wishes and actions of critics who are happily, but in vain, waiting for some kind of crisis to arise between the party and the CCP."

Meanwhile, Senate Speaker Ahmad Lawan has said he will not appeal Wednesday's judgment by the Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe state.

In a personally signed statement yesterday, Lawan said he had accepted the decision, which disqualified him from running for senate in Yobe North District.

The statement titled “Court Judgment on the Candidacy of Yobe North Senatorial District” reads: “Yesterday, Wednesday, September 28, 2022, the Federal High Court of Damaturu rendered a judgment on the legitimate candidate of the Senate District of Yobe North for the 2023 National Assembly Elections.

"Said judgment disqualifies my candidacy and, consequently, my participation in the elections.

"After due consultation with my political associates, supporters and supporters, I have decided not to appeal the judgment. I accept the judgment.

“At this juncture, I deem it appropriate to thank Senator Ibrahim Gaidam for the leadership role in the APC political family in Yobe State. I also thank Governor Mai Mala Buni for the support and brotherhood.

“To my constituents, I thank you all for your unwavering support, loyalty and wholehearted commitment to the cause of building up our people and the Yobe North Senate District, indeed Yobe State.”
