APC Enugu crisis gets more complicated as stakeholders boycott Tinubu rally

The crisis in the Enugu State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took on another dimension yesterday as key party stakeholders boycotted the presidential campaign rally of its candidate, Bola Tinubu, held in Michael Okpara Square.< /p>

Tinubu had promised to take over the Eastern Corridor Locomotive Railways, extending them to Calabar, Anambra and other parts of the southeast, adding that he would make Igbo an industrial center.

Former Senate Speaker, Ken Nnamani, Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, Former Governor of Enugu, Sullivan Chime, Director General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu, Senator Ayogu Eze; former president, Eugene Odo, Juliet Ibekaku and former party chairman, Ben Nwoye, among others, avoided the rally.

But Nnamani, Chime, Odo, Ikechukwu Ugwuegede were at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu to receive Tinubu. Speaking to reporters on why stakeholders avoided the rally, Nnamani insisted they were unaware of the event, stressing that they had nothing to do with those who were behind.

“We are not aware of the preparations for this rally. It was organized from outside Enugu. That is why we did not want to go and create a scene there,” Nnamani said. added, however, that Tinubu is the candidate of the party and that all loyal party members would support his election.

Chime said, however, that they avoided the event after the reception at the airport, due to problems with the party. He said the problem had existed for a year and was due to the imposition of a non-member on the party leadership.

This development follows the emergence of a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Ugochukwu Agballah, as APC State Chairman during the October 2021 parallel congress which took place. is held at an event center in Enugu.

Members had objected to his emergence on the grounds that he was not registered with the party, adding that he had been imposed by one of the zone governors against the wishes of party members.< /p>
