Disabled people in Osun State supported the re-election of All Progressives Congress candidate and incumbent Governor, Gboyega Oyetola.

Oyetola faces the daunting task of defeating People's Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate Ademola Adeleke in his quest to return for a second term on Saturday.

A number of PDP bigwigs, including the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, stormed the state on Thursday, where they asked voters to vote for Adeleke and wait to watch their votes Saturday.

In a statement released on Friday, APC's national lead for people with disabilities, Tolu Bankole, revealed that Oyetola has won the admiration and trust of the disability community through its programs and initiatives focused on people since 2018.

Bankole said the decision to endorse the governor was carefully made after extensive deliberation among the party's various disability groups.

He said: "Of the 15 candidates running for this election, he is the only one who can defend our interests. His various empowerment initiatives ranging from the health insurance scheme; social assistance programs and job made us love people with disabilities.

"We have no doubt that his second term will be of greater benefit to us in the areas of economic empowerment and disability inclusion."

Disabled people from all groups within the party and other political parties, who were represented at the meeting held at the ZEBAF Hotel in Osogbo, promised to translate their words into action by voting for the APC on Saturday.

The APC National Leader of Persons Living with Disabilities had on July 1 urged the Independent National Election Commission to address the plight of visually impaired voters ahead of the Osun Governorate election by providing ballot papers in Braille and dedicated polling stations for vulnerable people in society. .

Bankole made the call during a voter education and awareness training held in Osun State for people struggling with poor eyesight on the use of Braille ballot papers before the elections.

Experts predicted that the gubernatorial race scheduled for July 16 will be a direct battle between incumbent Governor Oyetola of the APC and Senator Ademola Adeleke of the PDP.

To further underscore the importance of the ballot, APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu had instructed the 86-man campaign council for Osun 2022 to win at all costs.

Adamu warned at their inauguration that the National Working Committee under his leadership had zero tolerance for failure.
