Apple's Siri will apparently receive major updates next year, the news comes from a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his weekly Power On newsletter.

According to the report, Apple is planning major updates for Siri, including how it's enabled and more.

At the moment, to activate Siri, you must say "He Siri", this will change and you will only have to say "Siri".

The company is working on an initiative to remove the “Hey” from the trigger phrase so that a user only has to say “Siri”—with a command. While this may seem like a small change, making the change is a technical challenge that requires a significant amount of AI training and underlying engineering work.

Apple has been testing this new wake word internally with its employees and it is more difficult to have one wake word than two wake words. This is because it's harder for Siri to understand the wake word in multiple accents and dialects when it's just one word rather than two.

Complexity involves Siri being able to understand the singular phrase "Siri" in several different accents and dialects. Having two words - "Hey Siri" - increases the likelihood that the system will correctly pick up the signal.

Apple is also looking to further integrate Siri into third-party apps on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
