Aregbesola calls for unity among APC members in Osun

Former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola called for unity among members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun.

Mr. Aregbesola said this at the lunch hosted for him by friends and loyalists as part of activities marking the homecoming reception for him on Saturday in Osogbo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APC lost the governorship on July 16, 2022 to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in part due to an internal crisis within of the party.

Mr. Aregbesola said he was fully committed to strengthening the party in the state.

He said that shortly, party leaders would visit members across the state to reiterate the need to strengthen and unite the party.

"I am deeply grateful to you all. You have all shown me unparalleled love and assurance that you are truly with us.

"We are grateful. We will not let you down. We will soon begin a statewide tour to see all of our people and assure them that we are fully back to look after their well-being.

"We are fully committed to strengthening the APC," he said.

Meanwhile, friends and associates of Mr. Aregbesola, in their remarks at the event, described him as a kind-hearted leader and a stubborn democrat.

Event planning committee chairman Najeem Salaam described Mr. Aregbesola as a man of many facets.

Mr. Salaam, former speaker of the State House of Assembly, who appreciated God on behalf of the former governor, pointed out that in the past 24 years of public service, Mr. Aregbesola had shown compassion, diligence, extraordinary loyalty and a determination to improve the lot of the population.

Furthermore, Kolapo Alimi, former commissioner for local government and chiefdom affairs, described Mr. Aregbesola as a rare gift to humanity.

“Oga is a rare gift to humanity. He combines service to God and people so well,” he said.

Other speakers at the event described Aregbesola as an icon of dynamism and a gift to humanity.
