Gunmen kill Plateau teacher and rob his wife

A teacher from Plateau State, Mr. Emmanuel Kyesmen, was killed by gunmen.

PUNCH Metro learned on Thursday that the victim, who worked with Betany Academy in Barkin Ladi, the state's Barkin Ladi local government area, was shot dead by the gunmen who attacked him on Wednesday night.

A resident of the town, Ferdinand Goyit, confirmed the death of the teacher to our correspondent in Jos on Thursday.

Goyit said: "Our people here in Barkin Ladi have once again been grieving after the horrific killing of a teacher by gunmen.

“The teacher's name is Emmanuel Kyesmen. He was a staff member at Betany Academy Barkin Ladi before he was killed last night and he has a store in the community which he operates after school hours.

“The gunmen arrived around 7 p.m. when he was about to close his shop next to his residence in the city and opened fire, killing him instantly. They also entered his residence and demanded money from his wife before leaving. »

State Police Public Relations Officer Alabo Alfred could not be reached when contacted about the incident because his phone lines were down.

PUNCH Metro reports that shortly before the latest killing in Barkin Ladi, Acting Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun visited state Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Rayfield government headquarters in Jos to discuss the security situation in the state.

He reportedly assured the governor of the police's commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
