Arsenal star Bukayo Saka disgustingly racially abused after West Ham penalty miss

Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka has again been the victim of sickening racial slurs online after his missed penalty in the 2-2 draw at West Ham. The Premier League title-chasing Gunners shed a two-goal lead for the second time in consecutive weeks and, unfortunately for Saka, missed a second-half penalty for the visitors shortly before Jarrod Bowen n equalizes for the Hammers.

It has since emerged that Saka was the subject of racially abusive online messages following his wayward kick.

Arsenal have yet to comment on the matter, but are expected to give their player their full support.

Saka took to Instagram after the disappointing draw to apologize to Gunners fans for his absence from 12 yards.

The exceptional young winger wrote: "No matter the outcome, I will always accept my responsibility. Apologies Gunners, I will do everything I can to make things right."

An Arsenal fan - Twitter user @PascalAbuka - wrote in Saka's defense: "Bukayo Saka didn't have his best day today, go ahead and criticize his performance if you have to, but if I see racism towards him, I will feel free to report & block you."

In response to one of the racist posts, @kattia_olsen1 wrote: "I'm very angry that someone is so mean to Saka. This is some of the worst racism I've ever seen. "

Another, @TwelveTribesNo wrote: "I swear racism has no place in football or anywhere. Saka missed a pen, it happens to the best. If anyone sees racist slurs against Saka , please report it ASAP. My boy needs all the support from Arsenal fans."

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Saka has been the target of racial slurs.

The 21-year-old was also targeted by online trolls after missing his penalty in the Euro 2020 final against Italy in the summer of 2021.

A man, who went live on Facebook to insult Saka, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, was subsequently jailed in November 2021.

The latest England superstar first took a short break from social media after the incident before posting a heartfelt message to his supporters.

He wrote in 2021 on Instagram: "I stepped away from social media for a few days to spend time with my family and reflect on the past few weeks.

"This post won't do it justice to how grateful I am for all the love I've received, and I feel like I have to thank everyone who has supported me.

"It's been an honor to be part of an @England team that lead by example, they're brothers for life and I'm grateful for everything I've learned from each of the players and staff who worked so hard. Helping this team reach our first final in 55 years, seeing my family in the crowd, knowing what they sacrificed to help me get there, meant everything to me.

"There are no words to tell you how disappointed I was with the result and my penalty. I really believed we would win this for you. I'm sorry we couldn't bring it home to you this year, but I promise you that we will give everything we have to let this generation know what it feels like to win.

"My reaction after the game said it all, I was in so much pain and felt like I was letting you and my English family down, but I can promise you this. I won't let this moment pass or the negativity I received this week, break me."

Saka also called on social media companies such as Twitter and Instagram to start taking online abuse and racism on their platforms seriously.

“For those who campaigned on my behalf and sent me heartfelt letters, wished me and my family well – I am so grateful,” Saka added.

"This is what football should be. Passion, people of all races, genders, religions and backgrounds coming together with shared joy from the roller coaster of football.
