Arsenal told to sign 'brilliant' Chelsea star but pundit highlights potential stumbling block

Arsenal have been encouraged to sign Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante next summer when his contract at Stamford Bridge expires.

The Frenchman has already had a phenomenal career. He was part of the Leicester City side that defied odds to win the Premier League in 2015/16.

It was his first season in England and his form earned him a £32million move to Chelsea.

Kante continued to shine as a Chelsea player as he lifted the Premier League again in 2016/17.

The Carabao Cup is the only trophy that eluded Kante during his time at Stamford Bridge. He won the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

The central midfielder was lucky to pick up injuries during his career, but he missed a few games last season.

And this season he has only played twice in total as he has been hit with a muscle injury.

His future at Chelsea is uncertain as his current contract is due to expire in 2023.

Earlier this week, Blues boss Graham Potter revealed he was not involved in talks with Kante over a new deal:

“My goal at the moment is to help rehabilitate N'Golo in a way that he is available for us because when he is on the pitch he is a huge asset to us,” said Potter.

"The rest is between the club and him. My goal is to help him get in shape, to make him enjoy his football, because there are not many players in world football like NG .

"So the sooner he comes back for us, the better. So that's where I'm going to leave my attention."

Potter added: "It's hard to replace someone like NG, he's a world class player and any team that loses him will suffer a bit.

"So it's up to the other players to take the plunge and find the solutions. There are a lot of matches now and we have little time on the training ground.

"But if I look at the options we have, there's no direct replacement, so I have to find the right one."

Kante has recently been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Darren Bent thinks Arsenal should go for the experienced midfielder, but Mikel Arteta may think he's 'too old':

"I don't think that would ever happen because for what Arteta is trying to build, Kante is too old," Bent told talkSPORT.

"But look at what he can give you, not as a starter, but someone who's just in and around the team. Imagine him and Partey...he's fantastic, he'll stay as the one of the absolute greatest.

"If Kante is free at the end of this season, there will be top teams around the world still lining up for his signature."
