ASUU has not yet suspended the strike - President

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) did not, as of 12:30 p.m., suspend its ongoing industrial action, the union said.

Articles and social media posts on Tuesday morning suggest the union has suspended the strike following a meeting with members of the House of Representatives leadership on Monday.

For the first time since February 14, when ASUU went on strike, it said on Monday it saw "light at the end of the tunnel."

However, in a brief response to PREMIUM TIMES' investigation into the strike, ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke said the union had not suspended the strike.

He called "false" the stories that his union had suspended the strike.

In the meantime, a source within the union told PREMIUM TIMES that there will be briefings in the various areas of the union and a subsequent meeting by the branches between today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday).

“They just left Abuja this morning, and some will hold their zone meetings today and some tomorrow,” the source said.

The source added that the union's National Executive Board will then meet to decide on the suspension of the strike.

The Court of Appeal last Friday ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before pursuing its appeal against the judgment of the Labor Court.

Although the ASUU did not immediately obey the court's decision, it was in talks with House of Representatives leaders, holding several meetings.
