Atiku support group calls for Bode George's expulsion from the PDP

The Lagos State Support Group for the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign has called on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee to expel the former Deputy National Vice President, Chief Bode George, from the party.

Speaking in Lagos, the group's coordinator, Dr Adetokunbo Pearse, accused George of constantly working against the emergence of a PDP governor in the state.

He said the G5 governors' insistence that PDP national chairman Iyorchia Ayu step down is a decoy war targeting the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Pearse said George was determined to create a crisis in the Lagos PDP to destabilize the party ahead of the election.

He said: "Earlier this year, when George was unable to convince Jide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the PDP gubernatorial candidate to choose his surrogate son, Gbadebo Rhodes- Vivour, as running mate, George advised Rhodes-Vivour to decamp to the Labor Party, where he is a candidate for state governor.

"It can be said that George's anti-party activities have become more evident. A few days ago, precisely on Sunday, November 20, 2022, George at his residence on Lugard Avenue, joined by his partners, the governors of the G5, said that while he was open to backing the Lagos State Senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates, he was not ready to back Atiku for President nor to support Jide Adediran for governor.

“We view this public denunciation of our presidential candidate as a calculated effort by George to derail the 2023 campaign for the People's Democratic Party in Lagos State. It is his determination to harm the party by decapitating the head of his campaign that is the party's presidential candidate.

"Although PDP members present at George's shaming show on Sunday made it clear that Atiku was their preferred presidential candidate. We are concerned that George's continued presence at the party poses a real threat to the success of our party in Lagos."

“For 20 years in five electoral circles, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019, George has been a negative and divisive force in our body politic in the Lagos State PDP. 'great disregard for the party's constitution as well as respect for the rule of law.

"Besides his failure to lead us to electoral victory in Lagos State, it has been alleged for several years that in order to maintain his leadership position in the Lagos PDP, he ensures that no one in the PDP replaces him by becoming the Governor of Lagos State.

"Therefore, to end these violations and give Lagos PDP a fair chance of victory in the upcoming 2023 general election, we request that you, Ayu, use your good offices to serve George with notice of expulsion of members of the Peoples Democratic Party. We have made a similar request to the President of George Ward in the Local Government Area of Lagos Island."
