AUDA-NEPAD to start sensitization on violence-free elections

The African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa's Development (AUDA-NEPAD) has said that ahead of this year's general elections, it will begin sensitization across the country to achieve to a vote without violence.

The AUDA-NEPAD National Coordinator, Princess Gloria Akobundu revealed this during a media conversation recently in Abuja.

She said that part of AUDA-NEPAD activities for 2023 would be advocacy/raising awareness for violence-free elections, implementation of programs on Agenda 2063 and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ) 2030 and gender mainstreaming.

Akobundu said the Agency would work in partnership with civil society organizations (CSOs) and other partners to conduct the election campaign without grassroots violence.

She noted that as part of the activities for 2023, there would be a launch of the AUDA-NEPAD Second Country Review Report and National Program of Action.

She however said that in 2021, the Agency had achieved a lot, especially consultations and youth engagement on the effectiveness of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) in Nigeria.< /p>

She said that AUDA-NEPAD has also initiated the innovative capacity building of smallholder farmers for the restoration of productive land amid COVID-19 in Nigeria and consultations and engagement with stakeholders stakeholders on smallholder farmer projects.

The AUDA-NEPAD National Coordinator said that in 2021 there were also consultations and engagements with relevant stakeholders on the effective procurement and budgeting process and training program for trainers on smallholder farmer projects.

In 2020, she said the Agency embarked on strategic empowerment of youth and women in Doguwa/Tudun Wada, Kano State.

Also in 2020, Akobundu said AUDA-NEPAD organized Training on Agricultural Commodities for Export Purposes, Awka South, Anambra State, Youth Training on Viability of Agriculture trade in Awka North and South, Anambra State and strategic training and empowerment in key skill areas relevant to women and youth in Oluoye, Oyo State.
