The smart lock got an 80 rating from us when we reviewed it in 2020. August improved on the previous version by making this model slimmer and Wi-Fi connected, which means you won't you don't need a bridge to use it in your home. Setup is pretty straightforward as the lock fits most existing deadbolts, but be sure to check the company's support page to make sure it will work with your lock. We also like that the setup process requires you to enable two-factor authentication, adding a much-needed extra layer of security. This version of the smart lock also supports Bluetooth encryption as well as 128-bit AES and TLS encryption.

The whole point of a smart lock is being able to control the entrance to your home when you're not there. August's device lets you lock or unlock your door remotely using the smartphone companion app, allowing you to let friends and family into your home even when you you're not there. You can also send them time-limited entry keys so they can enter on their own. We also like the device's auto-lock feature, which automatically secures the door when the device senses it's been closed.
