Nigeria's average retail kerosene price more than doubled in October

The average retail price paid by Nigerian consumers for kerosene rose by 145.9% in October compared to the same period last year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a report released Tuesday.

In the document titled “National Household Kerosene Price Watch”, the Bureau of Statistics observed that the average retail price of kerosene in October 2022 was N1,041.05, indicating an increase of 9.9% quarter to quarter.

On a yearly basis, the bureau reported that the average retail price per liter increased by 145.9% from N423.42.

State price monitoring shows that the highest average retail price of kerosene was recorded in Cross Rivers at 1,304.17 naira per litre, followed by Enugu at 1,300 naira and Lagos at 1,300 naira. N1,294.44.

On the other hand, the lowest price was recorded in Borno with a liter selling for N783.33, followed by Rivers (N804.17) and Bayelsa (N805.67).

The BNS identified the South East as the region with the highest average retail price, with kerosene selling at N1,191.14 per litre, followed by the South West at N1,142.60, while that the North East recorded the lowest price at N905.18.

Price per gallon

According to the bureau, jet fuel averaged N3,516.87 per gallon in October 2022, an increase of 8.7% from the previous month, and rose 126.5% from year after year.

Enugu recorded the highest average retail price per gallon of kerosene in all states at 4,484.21 naira, followed by Abuja at 4,450 naira and Kogi at 4,350 naira.

Gombe fetched the lowest price at N2,417.50, followed by Borno and Delta at N2,740 and N2,824.62 respectively.
