Salihamidzic also believes mistakes were made in the handling of the negotiations that led to David Alaba leaving for Real Madrid, admitting he wished he could have done things differently.

The defender's 12-year stint with the Bavarian giants came to an end at the end of the 2020-21 season as the club failed to reach agreement with the Austria international on a new deal.< /p>

“The supervisory board had concerns about entering into extraordinary contracts during this period,” Salihamidzic said. "We always wanted to save face and give great appreciation to David.

"We really tried everything. We really wanted to keep David. But it was, it must be said, a difficult time.

“In retrospect, I don't know if I would have done it again with such a deserving player. »
