She said it was high time Nigeria as a nation had its own statistics to know if women really do survive breast cancer and to ensure the welfare of victims.

Akeredolu, who is also a breast cancer survivor, said BRECAN has become the voice of the voiceless for breast cancer patients and survivors, adding that its activities have motivated many women to come forward to hospitals for screening and treatment.< /p>

I put it behind me, it started 25 years ago. Although it was traumatic at first, with the support of my husband and children and the whole family, I was able to pull through. My state of mind also helped.

“Positive attitude in difficult times sometimes gets someone through. My kids have been my anchor!

"That's why I found the courage to be the voice of breast cancer victims.

"Before I started, most of the women were under the table and hiding in the wardrobe because they don't want anyone to know. Because of me, they pulled themselves together and went to the hospital.

“That most breast cancer survivors are wealthy people may not be totally wrong, because the burden of breast cancer treatment is enormous. The down payment is huge, which is why it seems that the rich survive it.

"We have undertaken some interventions, we want to become a one stop shop where women can get adequate information about cancer, and the hallmark of this celebration is to show that women are still surviving cancer."

She however called for support to fund the association so that it can continue to grow and expand to all 36 states of the federation.

"The government is not supporting and that is why most patients give up and would rather die. But that shouldn't be the case!

“The government should make breast cancer treatment accessible. Then those who resign themselves to fate will cut back drastically.”
