Complaints thefts have already increased by 544% compared to last year, according to a study by the consumer website Resolver.

The law states that if your trip is cancelled, your airline must reimburse you or arrange an alternative route.

Those who receive less than 14 days notice are entitled to up to £520 compensation if a replacement flight delays your arrival by two hours or more.

If you are delayed by more than three hours and the airline is responsible, you can also claim compensation.

In theory this should be paid for in less than a week - but a growing backlog means that it could take months.

And airlines have been accused of evading responsibility, forcing thousands of travelers to file formal complaints each year.
