United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Sunday that President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping will have an opportunity to speak in the coming weeks following the American criticism of China's lack of diplomatic condemnation of the Kremlin during its war on Ukraine.

"As far as President Xi and President Biden are concerned, we hope they will have the opportunity to speak in the coming weeks," Blinken told reporters during the interview. a stopover in Bangkok, Thailand.

According to Reuters, China continues to be the main strategic adversary of the United States, making diplomatic contacts necessary to avoid a conflict between Washington and Beijing.

The White House is debating lifting the harsh tariffs the Trump administration has imposed on China, but Biden indicated on Friday that a review was underway and that he would not hadn't made a decision yet.

The Chinese Embassy in Washington said in a statement that discussions with Bilken at a meeting of G20 foreign ministers in Bali, Indonesia were fruitful and could avoid "miscalculations," but added that the U.S.-China relationship is not "out of trouble" caused by the previous administration of President Donald Trump, according to Bloomberg.

The statement also urged Washington not to create "exclusive groupings" against China, warned against supporting Taiwanese independence and urged not to interfere in China's internal affairs, including those involving Hong Kong and Xinjiang.
