Looking to extend their EFL Cup adventure on Wednesday night, Brighton will make the trip to a struggling Charlton.

Starting with the hosts, suffering another home meltdown over the weekend as they were finally hit by a 2-1 home loss to Bristol Rovers, Charlton find themselves at the heart of what has become a real nightmare. While the former Premier League side may have been dreaming of mounting a proper play-off charge this season, many in their camp are now looking firmly over their shoulder at the drop zone. Under intense scrutiny on December 7 as they exited the FA Cup after a 3-1 draw at Stockport, the Addicks have failed to win any of their last seven competitions in any format. With that dismal form dating back to November 8, Charlton has also continued to show some rather glaring problems at the back. Without a clean sheet to their name since Oct. 22, third-tier wrestlers should prepare for a real test here.

As for the visitors, last seen before the enforced World Cup break with a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa on November 13, Brighton will be looking for an immediate return to winning ways here. Although the Seagulls may have been disappointed to see Graham Potter move to Chelsea in September, they have largely impressed under new boss Roberto De Zerbi. Extending their run in the EFL Cup last month after securing a stellar 3-1 win away at top-flight Arsenal, some around the Amex are aiming to mount a famous European charge this season. With their eye-catching flurry this season highlighted by a 4-1 loss to Chelsea on October 29, there's no doubt the former Shakhtar Donetsk should feel a golden chance here. With a 3-1 win on their last trip to the Valley in 2016, it's hard to see anything but a similar away win here.
