Blacksmith keeping guns for repairs stopped

A craftsman residing in Ejigbo, Osun State, Kazeem Folajinmi, was arrested by men from the Osun State Police Command for possession of locally made weapons .

The blacksmith, who marched past reporters at Osun Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo on Friday during an interview, said he specialized in making keys, cutlasses and hoes.

Folajinmi, however, denied owning the guns, saying some people had brought them for the man who had a store next to his, who was apprehended last year .

He said: "I was arrested on Sunday night and taken to my shop where they found all these items (locally made weapons). I know key making, hoes, axes and cutlasses, but the weapons they found do not belong to me. The person who made them had been chosen but before his arrest he had a shop near mine.

"The place where these guns were found is right next to my store and it has a separate door. The person I mentioned earlier owns the place. But I recovered the weapons from whoever brought them for the man I said earlier was arrested and is currently in jail.

"He's been in jail since last year. I only helped him get the cannons that were damaged for repair. It was like I was under a spell. He them made the guns and they were bringing them back to him to fix them. I should have told them to remove the guns when they brought them."

Osun State Police spokesman Yemisi Opalola said the suspect could not give a reasonable explanation for how he discovered the guns .

She assured that a thorough investigation would be carried out on this matter.
