Yang was previously nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series in 2019 and Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2021, both for “SNL.” Although "Ted Lasso's" Goldstein ended up winning the award in 2021, Yang's nomination marked the first time an "SNL" star player was honored with an acting award. He spent one season as a writer in 2018 before becoming the first Asian American to join the main cast in 2019.
