These retreats have been named the nation's "ultimate" B&Bs in the AA's annual B&B Awards, now in its 27th year. Individuality, quality housekeeping and the "very extensive" breakfast offering were some of the deciding factors in crowning the winners, reveals the AA.

Commentary on the eight award-winning bed and breakfasts, which won titles in various categories, Simon Numphud, Managing Director of AA Hotel & Hospitality Services, said: “This year we have found an extraordinary level of individuality, which is demonstrated by our winners' inherent essence of charm and character.
