Its infamous reputation has been further enhanced by an annual survey by Which? which asked respondents to rate 35 chains in 10 key categories, including bed comfort, food, customer service, "description matches reality" and Wi-Fi. Britannia, whose average price is £119, gets just two out of five stars in every category.
One guest described their Britannia room as "absolutely terrible, drab and smelly" , says the consumer champion Premier Inn topped the list again, with an average price of £89 per room, making it the second cheapest of the major hotel chains surveyed, after Travelodge.
