CAFCL: Nigerian clubs, Rivers United and Plateau United ready to shine in the North

Nigerians Rivers United and Plateau United will look to upset North African giants Wydad Athletic Club and Esperance in the CAF Champions League on Saturday (today).

Up for grabs is a place in the lucrative group stage of Africa's biggest club competition.

Rivers United beat defending champions Wydad of Morocco 2-1 in the first leg last weekend.

Plateau United also beat four-time champions Esperance of Tunisia 2-1 in their first leg last Sunday.

For Rivers United, they will face the passionate home crowd of Wydad at the beautiful Mohamed V Stadium.

Left-back Ebube Duru swore he wouldn't enter the pitch with fear in his back. “In the first leg we had a lot of team spirit and determination and we knew what was at stake. We came to fight and we got the desired victory,” Duru told CAFonline.

"We think we can finish the job away from home. We'll all go out and fight until the end. It's a 90 minute game and we're going to give it our all. We know what we're going to face there -down, so we prepared physically and mentally,” he added.

Plateau United captain Daniel Itodo also believes the Peace Boys can cause an upset against Esperance.

"I believe in the team and the coaches we have and I know that we will create an upset in Tunis and achieve victory. We are well prepared physically, psychologically and spiritually for the task ahead of us, we know what we are going to face bullying from their fans but we are ready,” he said.
