Introducing the Casa Valextra concept in Kyoto

MILAN — Valextra launches experiential store concept and introduces product categories.

The legendary Milan-based accessories company on Tuesday unveiled Casa Valextra in Kyoto, Japan, which showcases mid-century Italian design pieces as well as arts and crafts from the city, once capital of Japan.

Casa Valextra is located in a two-storey old tea house on Hanami Street in the center of Gion , Kyoto.

Iconic pieces from B.B.P.R., the architectural partnership founded in Milan in 1932; Gianfranco Frattini; Franco Albini; Gabriella Crespi and Luigi Caccia Dominioni - from the private vintage collection of the Galleria Luisa Delle Piane in Milan - are displayed with traditional Japanese structures in wood and stone.

On this occasion, Valextra presents a lifestyle category crafted in the brand's signature Millepunte calf leather and complemented by its black lacquered Costa edging and its hand-painted Inchiostro lines. It includes a desk pad, an organizer, a pencil case, a diary cover, a jewelry box and a pencil case with Faber Castell pencils.

"The innovative format corresponds to a first attempt to create a more lifestyle experience for the brand and to expand into other categories relevant to our brand image such as Gifts & Home and Travel,” said Xavier Rougeaux, Managing Director of Valextra.

The store also offers original vintage Valextra signature pieces, the 1963 Carita shoulder bag and the Tric Trac from 1968 to the Premiere briefcase from 1973. In addition, limited editions of the brand's leather goods have been designed exclusively as a tribute to the city of Kyoto, including the Costa travel case specially designed to hold a kimono, a scarf in silk and an Iside handbag featuring a sculptural top handle.

"Casa Valextra crystallizes our passion for excellence, our technical beauty and our Milanese heritage while ensuring always creating a conversation with the local culture and environment in an innovative way," said Rougeaux. Valextra is known for its handcrafted bags and leather goods marked with signature lacquered piping.
