CFAN will work with Tinubu to boost cocoa production

The Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria has expressed its willingness to work with the new administration of Bola Tinubu to improve the cocoa industry in the country.

The group said cocoa farmers had high expectations of the Tinubu administration, but said it would work with the administration to put in place regulations for the cocoa industry.

CFAN National President Comrade Adeola Adegoke told this to Akure after he was re-elected to lead the association for another four years.

He said: "Our goal is for us to be the highest cocoa producing country in the world and to increase productivity per hectare. We will work with Tinubu to ensure that the National Cocoa Management Committee set up by Buhari be solidified and provide the enabling laws of the National Assembly that will stimulate investment in the sector, strengthen the research system and make subsidies available for our farmers.

"If you look at investments in rice and other commodities, they are not comparable to cocoa. Cocoa forex is still the highest in the country.

“We have seen that our farmers are getting poorer. We have seen that the quality noted for the cocoa industry in Nigeria is no longer there. commitment to developing the cocoa economy in most cocoa producing states is no longer there.

"The current system where there is no system is unacceptable to us. There will be a social revolution to see that the only way to create wealth for our states is to return to a coca production of quality and massive empowerment of our farmers. We will work with the new administration,” he said.
