Chelsea draw attention to Sevilla manager after Freund snub; Potter wants an Inter duo

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly is reportedly interested in bringing Sevilla sporting director Monchi to Stamford Bridge.

After playing for Sevilla between 1990 and 1999, Monchi became the club's sporting director a year later.

He spent 17 years in this role before spending just under two years with AS Roma in the Italian capital.

The 54-year-old returned to Sevilla in April 2019 to resume his role as sporting director at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium.

Monchi has an excellent reputation in the game and generally tends to squeeze every last penny from opposing teams sniffing out talent in Sevilla.

He has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past, with Manchester United and Arsenal apparently interested.

The Spaniard - whose full name is Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo - is now a target for Chelsea, according to 90min.

The Blues had tried to land Christoph Freund from Red Bull Salzburg but were unsuccessful.

Monchi was an integral part of the deal to send longtime Chelsea target Jules Kounde from Sevilla to La Liga rivals Barcelona.

The report says Blues co-owner, president and acting athletic director Boehly is a "huge fan" of Monchi.

It's unclear whether or not the Spaniard intends to leave Sevilla, however.

Failed to bring in Freund or former Liverpool manager Michael Edwards, Monchi is now seen as Boehly's first choice.

The report adds that Paul Mitchell of Monaco, Tim Steidten of Bayer Leverkusen and Victor Orta of Leeds United are also on Chelsea's shortlist.

From General Staff to Game Team; Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The Italian playmaker has been heavily linked with Liverpool in the past and is valued at £63m, according to Transfermarkt.

The 39-cap Italian international is under contract at San Siro until 2026.

Rumors of Chelsea's interest in Barella come from Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.

The appointment of Graham Potter following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel has left the Inter hierarchy 'shaking' as the former Brighton boss plans an 'assault' next June.

He should be very busy next summer and will also pursue defender Milan Skriniar.

The Slovak is out of contract in 2023 and has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain for the duration of the summer transfer window.

If Skriniar signs a new contract, Chelsea are expected to pay €50m for him and €60m for Barella.

In an ideal world, for Chelsea anyway, they would land the former for free at the end of his contract.

Skriniar is the captain of the Slovak national team and made 224 appearances for the Nerazzurri in five years and became one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Barella has scored 13 goals and 37 assists in 143 appearances for the Serie A giants.

He has started this season in fine form, contributing four goals in seven league appearances so far.
