“Cobra Kai,” the karate-themed comedy-drama, has been a staple for many on Netflix in recent years. Season five premiered on September 9, 2022, and binge-watchers immediately started wondering if there was another season to look forward to. Since January 20, fans have finally had their answer: Netflix has announced that the series has been renewed for a sixth and final season.

"Rediscovering the world of 'The Karate Kid' to the world has been our humble honor," creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg wrote in a statement on Twitter. "Doing 'Cobra Kai' allowed us to join the same sacred dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub and all of the amazing members of the original cast. It also allowed us to play sensei, expanding the "original stories and the birth of a new generation of underdogs. We never took this opportunity for granted," they continued. "Our goal from day one with 'Cobra Kai' has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley at the time and place we always imagined. So it is with immense pride and gratitude that we are able to announce this achievement. . . . This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to tell more "Karate Kid" stories with you down the line. Because, as we we all know, Cobra Kai never dies," the note concludes.

Season five followed Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), Daniel La Russo (Ralph Macchio), and Chozen Toguchi (Yuji Okumoto) as they worked to stop Terry Silver's (Thomas Ian Griffith) plan to spread Cobra Kai Worldwide, plus several other storylines. So far, details about the plot and release date of the series remain under wraps, but it's clear that the creators have been considering a sixth season for a while. In January 2022, Hurwitz told Collider that "we never said from the beginning how many seasons there would be. I think we always considered it at least six was kind of in our heads . . . " Heald continued, "We still have an endgame plan. We're still writing beyond season five."
