Court orders Lagos dealer arrested with 941kg of cannabis to pay fine

A notorious drug trafficker arrested in Lagos may not spend much time in jail despite his conviction.

Alhaji Surajo Mohammed was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Anti-narcotics officers caught him on December 20, 2021 at Alaba Rago neighborhood in Ojo, Lagos.

The convict, who had 941.15 kg of cannabis in his possession, was brought before the court under the charge number FHC/L/370c/2021.

Mohammed's trial in the Federal High Court in Lagos ended on October 6.

In his verdict, Judge Yellin Bogoro sentenced him to seven years in prison.

However, the judge gave Mohammed a 7 million naira fine option, meaning he would be released after paying.

On Sunday, the NDLEA announced the interception of more than 2.4 million tramadol tablets from Pakistan.
