'De Jong wants to go to Chelsea', says 'very high level Man Utd' source

A source 'at the highest level of Man United' says Frenkie De Jong 'wants to go to Chelsea'.

Manchester United agreed £71m ago with Barcelona for De Jong Yonks, but reports have still indicated the midfielder is keen to stay at the Nou Camp.

MAILBOX: Are post-Abramovich Chelsea following the same path as Man Utd after Fergie?

De Jong owes around £17million in deferred pay to the Spanish club, who have told him he will also have to take a significant pay cut if he wants to stay.

The 25-year-old continues to be pushed out, and interest from Chelsea has apparently intensified in recent days, with reports claiming a move to Stamford Bridge could interest De Jong, who wants play Champions League football.

And Harry Redknapp says it's now 'a fact' that the Dutch international 'wants to go to Chelsea' as the former Premier League manager leaked information he heard from a big fat Man United beanie.

"Now it looks like De Jong wants to go to Chelsea," Redknapp told The Byline. “I know for a fact he wants to go to Chelsea. So Man United are not going to get it, I got this from someone at the very top of Man United.

"He really wants to go to Chelsea so if he goes to Chelsea and Man United don't get him I don't know where they go and if Chelsea do get him he would obviously be a fantastic signing for them ."

Ten Hag was asked about De Jong at a press conference on Friday afternoon and joked that he 'didn't know' United were trying to sign the Barcelona star.

"We want Frenkie?" Ten Hag told reporters ahead of United's Premier League opener against Brighton.

"It's about the good players...At the moment we have players in this position who are performing really well. It would be a good situation [to sign more players], but I'm happy with the current squad. We need players. You don't need any players; you need the right player."

Ten Hag insists he is 'happy' with his squad and 'satisfied' with the signings they made this summer.

"It would be a good situation [to have transfer deals done], but I'm happy with the team," he said. "I'm happy with the signings so far. We're working together. I'm happy with the current squad and we need the right players."
