De Ligt ready to bolster Bayern defense after 'agreed' €80m deal with Juventus

Matthijs de Ligt is set to move to Bayern Munich after Juventus reportedly accepted a bid worth around €80m for the Dutch defender.

While Robert Lewandowski is set to be officially introduced as a Barcelona player on Monday, Bundesliga champions Bayern are set to announce the significant arrival of De Ligt.

Wide reports in Germany on Sunday evening indicated that final transfer details had been fully agreed between the clubs, with Kicker claiming the 22-year-old will sign a five-year contract.

The negotiations were led by Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, who as a defender has played spells with the Bavarian giants and Juventus.

Sport1 have said Bayern will pay an initial fee of €70m, with an additional €10m in top-ups to sweeten the deal.

The news of the progress follows Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn's announcement on Saturday that De Ligt "wants to join".

Kahn told Blickpunkt Sport: "We have had discussions and the player wants to come to FC Bayern. We will have further discussions and see how it goes."

De Ligt played 2,675 minutes as Juventus finished fourth in Serie A last season, more than any of his outfield teammates.

Although Bayern are now resigned to losing Lewandowski, who scored 50 goals last season, they are rebuilding as Julian Nagelsmann refreshes his squad.

Sadio Mane arrived from Liverpool in an eye-catching deal, with Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui joining Eredivisie champions Ajax, the club where De Ligt began his career.

Centre-back De Ligt will strengthen an area where Bayern needed reinforcements to improve competition for places, arguably even before Niklas Sule left on a free transfer to Borussia Dortmund.
