Declare suspended Adamawa REC wanted, CSO tells police

Civil society organization Partners for Electoral Reform has called on Nigerian police to declare wanted the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner of Adamawa State, Hudu Ari, if he does not appear not for inquiry.

Recall that Ari was suspended by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired) for his conduct when he declared the gubernatorial candidate of the Congress of Progressives, Aishatu Binani, winner in the April 15 by-elections, while the process was still ongoing.

The President has ordered an investigation by the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services and the Commander General of the Security and Civil Defense Corps of the Nigeria.

However, the alleged REC had gone into hiding from where he allegedly wrote a letter to the police.

But Partners for Electoral Reform chairman Ezenwa Nwagwu called on police to immediately declare Ari wanted, saying he was admitting guilt in hiding.

In a statement on Friday, Nwagwu said: "He is doing himself a disservice by hiding. His gesture is an admission of guilt that comes out of his sudden disappearance. invitation from the IG and make a formal statement rather than resorting to writing letters.

"If Mr. Hudu Yunusa Ari is not prepared to voluntarily submit to the police for investigation, as ordered by the President, the police must immediately declare him wanted."
