The Ministry of Digital Economy carries out 2000 projects in 3 years – Pantami

Communications and Digital Economy Minister Isa Pantami said the ministry had completed more than 2,000 projects in the sector in three years.

Mr. Pantami said this during a monitoring visit to the Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Data and Information Center on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that public institutions will not be the only ones to benefit from the data center but the private sector and all Nigerians in the area of broadband among others.

Mr. Pantami said, "Public institutions, including private institutions and ordinary citizens, will benefit from services such as broadband and trainings, among others.

"If you look at the facility, it's a training center. This training center is for citizens.

"Training will be organized from time to time for our fellow citizens in order to bridge the digital divide.

"This is an area that is going to be useful to our citizens because it is a government institution and citizens should benefit from this training.

"When citizens are trained, you implicitly increase the likelihood of obtaining or being employed by the government or a private institution or even by international organizations."

The minister said there were so many opportunities in the sector, adding that citizens should not limit job creation to government or Nigeria alone, but to explore internationally. TEXEM Advert

"Today in the digital economy, when we talk about job creation, don't restrict that job creation to just government or Nigeria.

"There are a thousand and one opportunities at the international level. The most important thing is to have the skills and to be able to show them that you can take up the challenge.

“So by training the citizens, it will be an opportunity to increase their likelihood of getting a job, not in Nigeria, but even internationally with even the tech giants,” Mr. Pantami said. .

He added that the Kano data center is already operational and preparations for its inauguration are well underway.

Galaxy Backbone CEO Mohammed Abubakar said data centers drive information and communications technology (ICT) worldwide.

According to Mr. Abubakar, “we have the connectivity component and the data center component is where you have all your information.

"As you know, information is now our black gold and our crude oil. Before, we stored our information in files, which were confidential and only a few people had access to it.

"Now the data is in the cloud. It's everywhere, so the repository of that data is the data centers.

"All the information you have as a country will now reside in the data center under your control.

"There is a particularity, it is the protection of this data center. If you have data and it is not protected, anything can happen. ”
