Dion Lee RTW Spring 2023

Tibi creator Amy Smilovic celebrated 25 years in the business - which doesn't is no small feat in the field of fashion - with a breathtaking parade Saturday afternoon for 800 people.

Smilovic has carved out a niche for smart and beautiful basics with a twist and one of the best parts of the show were seeing how her clients styled their own Tibi pieces in such a personal way – the crisp Stella cargo pants with white tank top, Bottega Veneta bag and strappy heels; the asymmetrical Tibi denim shirt-dress buttoned just right, with a roll-up sleeve and an open sleeve to reveal a sexy shoulder; the ultra-soft Tibi shrunken cashmere cardigan, cleverly twisted and tied into a sort of scarf over a button-down shirt and jeans, or the oversized Liam blazer worn as a dress.

That's what she's done for the past three seasons of her IG Live series" Style Class" - she gave women the power to do it themselves.

On the spring 2023 catwalk, Smilovic offered new building blocks, executed in a palette of black, white, celery green, lavender and ochre, playing with curtains, and as always, just the right amount of eccentricity.

She made a case for the long white denim skirt, and the trouser skirt too, worn with transparent tanks. In the tailoring department, she showed off black wide-leg pants with suspenders that had a throwback feel and a new waist-fitted blazer silhouette, alongside her signature menswear-inspired jackets open on elbows. A crisp cotton sleeveless peplum top was also perfect as an alternative to a warm weather jacket.

Speaking of beating the heat, there were several lightweight dresses to do so, including a dress white poplin shirt with sheer hem and sheer black sleeveless sheer style, showing the bright color of silk slip underneath. And Smilovic's proven ultra-fine cashmere convertible cocoon sweater has come in a new, looser design.

Adding something close to the heart is also one of the principles of the philosophy of "creative pragmatism from the designer. "Clothes should make you feel," she said during a preview.

Hence the funny t-shirts of "Barry", "The Righteous Gemstones" and other HBO shows dotted throughout. That, like so much else at Tibi, grew organically out of a relationship with the network's longtime head of comedy, Amy Gravitt, who first reached out to Smilovic with personal styling questions and then the invited to speak to her largely female executive team. in L.A.

"All of this makes sense to us at Tibi because we've been to their offices. It's not a collaboration, I'm not selling their product, it's just people we like to be with,” she said. "If it wasn't for the Emmys, we'd have the funniest front row."
