Dogara and verdict of the Church

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara tried again, for the umpteenth time, to drag the church into his kind of nefarious politics until he was exposed and rebuffed to the utmost high level!

Dogara had a few days ago invaded the Extraordinary General Church Council (GCC) of Wining All Evangelical Church (ECWA) on January 17, 2023 and after the event, he sponsored "publications malicious and malicious” by certain sections of the media to distort the narrative as to what happened at the Council.

Without the vigilance of the ECWA Church which quickly realized its misdeeds and quickly issued a statement contradicting Dogara's claim, saying the Church is close to endorsing a candidate in the upcoming elections presidential elections, many would have been misled into believing that ECWA is about to abandon the fine principles of objectivity and fairness for which it is known, to line up behind the partisanship of Dogara and its wrong political choices.

Rather than what Dogara reported, the Council successfully held and deliberated on the spread of the gospel of Christ with emphasis on soul winning and at no time did makes endorsing a 2023 presidential candidate a problem.

But because Dogara was there for political gain and not soul winning, he had a statement released to support his political bias and, worst of all, attempted to label the ECWA church president, Dr. Stephen Baba Panyam sympathetic to his political stay.

Although the statement does not name any particular candidate, the suggestive way in which it left the issue hanging is a clever way of trying to demarket other parties and their candidates and make ECWA appear supportive the PDP candidate.

But in a strongly worded statement, issued by its PRO, Reverend Romanus Ebenwokodi, the Church has disavowed misleading publications and admonished those behind the publications to immediately renounce their lies.

In the statement titled "Re-ECWA President: Church Will Announce Presidential Choice Soon," "A Refutation," the church "strongly demanded that Thisday and Vanguard newspapers" publicly retract said posts and issue a public apology to ECWA in 24 hours from noon, January 18, 2023."

The statement reads in part: "The General Council of the Church wishes to declare that at no time did it pass the resolution in question, nor did the President at any time during the proceedings of the Council make the statement credited to him by the newspapers. in question."

The statement further stated that “ECWA as a denomination has its members in all political parties and the leadership of ECWA respects this.

“Therefore, we need ECWA members, the Church in Nigeria and the general public to understand that the said publications are outright lies that were never intended and are intended to cause unnecessary tension capable of dragging ECWA's good name through the mud."

Dogara's priority in the current political dispensation has been to directly or indirectly attack other political parties on the basis of religion and to deceive unsuspecting organizations into believing he is fighting a religious cause.

He had lobbied to be nominated as the APC vice-presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but during that time he saw nothing wrong with the party on which he won the elections to the House of Representatives in 2015 and became president. of the House of Representatives.

Always driven by self-interest, Dogara had to abandon the party that had brought him to national prominence when he teamed up with others to switch to the PDP without ceding the presidential seat to the majority party to the House.

Even after joining the PDP, he shamelessly wanted to apply for the post of speaker until his plan was exposed and he was forced to hastily retreat.

His betrayal of the party which aided his politics and alliance with opposition parties in his state of Bauchi caused the APC to lose the state in the gubernatorial elections.

Despite all this evidence of betrayal, the APC still allowed him back into their fold thinking he had finally seen the light until it became clear that Dogara's only interest was to pursue a personal ambition to be named running mate of the South candidate who could come out of the APC primary.

When Tinubu was successful, Dogara's hope of coveting the job rose based on his calculations that he remains one of the APC's northern Christians likely to be considered for the job.< /p>
