Don't compromise Ugwuanyi's legacy of peace in Enugu, CAN chairman tells politicians

President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Enugu State, Reverend Emmanuel Edeh, has advised politicians in the state to enjoy lasting peace, which Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has is striving to root by refraining from hate speech, campaign of slander, defamation and acts of violence ahead of the March 11 elections for Governor and National Assembly.

Edeh, in a statement, said Christians in the state are concerned about the rate at which politicians and their operatives work to overheat the political system and slander the integrity of their opponents, as well than the sanctity of the leaders of religious institutions in their desperate attempt to score cheap political goals.

He said, "These acts are strange and hostile to the enduring peace and good governance initiatives of the Ugwuanyi administration since its establishment in 2015."

Edeh described Ugwuanyi as "a peacemaker and a wonderful person whom God has used to unite and promote peace, as well as to advance good governance in the state, especially in rural areas, for the benefit general to long-neglected rural dwellers. Feel the direct impact of democracy dividends."

Wondering why some people, too desperate for power, would resort to acts capable of undermining the governor's legacy at any cost, the cleric recalled that he had, in one of CAN's functions at Enugu, describes Ugwuanyi "as a bulwark, a strong pillar of faith and a much valued partner in the Christian community, who will be remembered greatly for his peaceful disposition, rural development initiative, inclusive governance, humility, compassion for the oppressed, his deep commitment to God, his great respect for the leaders of religious institutions.”

Edeh expressed concern over the recent political killings in the state and prayed for rest for the deceased worshipers. He pleaded with those still planning to wreak havoc in the state to refrain from such untoward acts, for which the state is not known.
