Don't vote for politicians who will bury Nigeria, warns Emmanuel

Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has warned the electorate against voting for politicians who will further destroy the country.

He said the warning became necessary because the country was at a critical stage in its economic and political development and needed good leadership to save it from possible collapse.

Emmanuel said so in Abuja while declaring open a four-day retreat organized by the Correspondents' Chapel of the Union of Journalists of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State Chapter on the theme: "To the Pursuit of a Better Nigeria through Responsible Journalism” held at Roses Regency Hotels and Suites, Wuye District, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja

The Governor, who was represented by his Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Ini Ememobong, said any attempt to make the wrong choice in 2023 would set the country back many years.

In his goodwill message, NUJ Akwa Ibom State Chapter Chairman Amos Etuk lamented the government's failure to recognize the role of the media in building a better Nigeria .

He said: "The politicians who seek our votes have dismissed our relevance, they forget that all of us sitting here today and millions of people in the 774 councils across the country are the structures needed to give our country the better in the next few months."

Earlier in his welcoming remarks, Correspondents' Chapel President Idongesit Ashameri emphasized that the retreat was meant to remind journalists of their role in holding political leaders to account and to remind them of their promises to the people.< /p>
