Dries Van Noten mixes beauty and accessories in his new Paris boutique

PARIS — Dries Van Noten's new retail concept presents here a 17th century tapestry of Dutch architect and artist Hans Vredeman de Vries, whose work on perspective was revolutionary for its time.

The designer breaks new ground on merchandising in the 650 square foot corner unit, which will highlight beauty rub shoulders with leather goods, jewelry and other accessories from its fashion collection.

The boutique opened its doors to the public on Saturday, further demonstrating just how much perfumes and rouge to Van Noten Lips, featured about a year ago, commune seamlessly with his other creations.

In addition, there will be pouches for store-exclusive fragrances, as well as combs, a mirror and a lip brush. From its main fashion collection will be handbags, small leather goods, jewelry, scarves and some other small accessories.

"It's important to show that everything shares the same vision," Van Noten said in an interview . “We don't see makeup and perfume as separate from clothes. For me, it's like a big unified project, and I really wanted to highlight that."

He noted that the store, although small, is loosely divided into areas for each product category . "But of course we have quite a few showcases where we show how everything is done in the same spirit," he noted.

The new store, at 9 Quai Malaquais, adjoins Van Noten's men's boutique, which opened in 2009. Her flagship Parisian boutique for women, which opened in 2007, is a lipstick throw away at No. 7 on the same street, with only a café and the narrow rue Bonaparte in between.

"It's so perfectly located. And the location is also very visible. Even when passing by car, you can't miss it,” enthuses the designer.
