Driver arrested in fatal crash at Apple Store that killed man and injured 20 others

The driver of an SUV that killed one and injured 20 in a crash at a Boston-area Apple store on Monday has been arrested and says the crash was an accident.

Bradley Rein of Hingham, Massachusetts has been charged with reckless driving homicide. However, the 53-year-old claims his right foot was stuck on the accelerator pedal, and when he tried to use his left foot to try to press the brakes, he was unable to get out of the way. 'stop the accelerator.

The police report said Rein had no visual impairments or other medical conditions that could have caused the accident, and he said his vehicle was regularly taken for inspection.

Although Rein does not have a criminal record in Massachusetts, he does have an impaired driving record in Roxbury, Vermont, following an accident in 2020.

Rein was held in Hingham District Court on $100,000 bond.

Chaos ensued at an Apple store in Hingham, Massachusetts, when a Toyota 4Runner crashed through the front window, killing one man and injuring 16 people.

The incident happened on Derby Street just after 11am on Monday. Videos and photos on social media show a giant hole through the glass front, with the car placed at the very back of the store with firefighters circling the ground as people find themselves trapped inside the store. /p>

ABC News reported that at least three people were seen being carried on stretchers.

“At this time, family members are being notified or are being notified,” Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruz told media around 1:20 p.m. Monday afternoon. "This morning was an unthinkable morning, and people are trying to figure out what happened. ... This investigation is active and ongoing, and we are very limited in what we can say at this point."< /p>

14 ambulances and seven fire engines arrived on the scene, as well as a medical helicopter.

14 victims were rushed to South Shore Hospital and two were taken to other Boston area hospitals.

“There are probably close to ten ambulances in the parking lot right now, along with numerous fire trucks and police vehicles,” a witness told ABC News . "The parking lot was very, very busy, so I guess there were a lot of people in the store."
