His new contract follows similar three-year contracts for pacemaker Ben Gibbon and the pitcher Josh Baker.

"He got into championship cricket, what he wanted to do, got scored hundreds and proved he could actually do it, which I think is huge for him," said Paul Pridgeon, chairman of the club's cricket steering group.

"It's very good to say, "I want to play championship cricket, I think I can do it", but you gotta go prove it, and he did.

"He also gives a different dimension to the top of the order in championship cricket because teams fear he will take us on a flyer."< /p >

Pollock said he felt like he was "just getting started" and was looking forward to getting back to it his first wicket partnership with Jake Libby in the red ball game.

They shared a position of 195 against Sussex towards the end of last season and he added: "Jake and I talked about it over the winter and had the opportunity to play more together.

"I know when it hits right, and suddenly this great partnership in Sussex comes together. September was the fruit of the season. Suddenly we know each other and everything starts to fall into place. Looking forward to continuing this year."

Worcestershire kick off their Championship Division Two campaign with a match at the away against Derbyshire, from April 6.
