The Edo State Independent Election Commission (EDSIEC) released the results of the local government council election held on Saturday, where it said the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) won all president positions in the 18 local government areas that make up the state.

But the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labor Party (LP) called the exercise a charade.

Returning officers from the 18 local government areas took turns to announce the results at the EDSIEC headquarters along Airport Road in Benin City and their paperwork was received by the EDSIEC Chairman, Justice James Oyomere (rtd) who finally officially announced the result. 18 winners and said returning officers and their ad hoc staff performed well in running the election

Similarly, a leader of the LP, Dr. Kingsley Okunday, in a statement on Sunday described the exercise as a sham and a violation of democracy.

He said it was unfortunate that at this time in Nigeria's existence, important elections, as important as those for the nearest grassroots local government, are still conducted in such a barbaric and unconventional manner. civilized.

He called on EDSIEC to "review the electoral process and nullify the election as it was evident in the public domain that the exercise was characterized by fraud, electoral malfeasance and, as such, n was not free and fair.

“It is a known fact that members of the ruling PDP, backed by outside forces, reportedly freely used dangerous weapons to scare Labor Party members on the ground, carried away voting materials in some areas and written results in others.

"This proves once again that Labor has become a thorn in the side of other parties and therefore they are using every undemocratic means to deny the party's victory, as replicated in the orchestrated local elections by the Edo State Government. He, however, called on the LP members not to pass laws, but to remain calm, because the democratic civilization of the party cannot be compared with the brutal approach of the PDP.

Alternatively, EDSIEC image maker Albert Eguaoje confirmed that the Commission will present return certificates to the winning candidates later on Sunday.
